Summary of Role:
The Lead of Marketing Services is responsible for supporting the planning, research, strategy, development, and performance management of Nutrien’s marketing strategy. (S)he reports to the Vice President, Marketing, and leads a team of ~15 marketing professionals, as well as a network of external partners/ relationships including Nutrien’s marketing agency partnerships.
This role will lead 3 primary teams: Communications, Insights and Analytics, and Marketing Research & Competitive Intelligence. Collectively these groups will support strategy creation by providing insights on grower needs, market dynamics competitive activity, etc. through the use of external sources, data, and research.
Execute product and customer marketing campaigns, in partnership with Commercial Development and Commercial Execution teams
Lead a team of in-house designers to develop product labels and promotional materials (e.g., brochures, advertisements, product collateral, etc.)
Translate product campaign strategies and grower engagement campaigns into specific media requirements
Develop media campaign approaches, timelines, and purchase strategies
Cultivate partnership of print, radio, and television outlets for product buys
Manage agency relationships:
Developing and maintaining close relationships with agencies, vendors, and other 3rd parties to ensure that projects are delivered within budget and time constraints
Build strategic plans with each agency partner/vendor
Coordinate the appearance and production of agency marketing materials, including print, billboards, etc.
Ensure that the organization’s desired position is properly articulated consistently
Insights and Analytics:
Measure marketing effectiveness through campaign analytics and insights, including customer retention, customer conversion, ROI, etc.
Oversee the development of a dashboard to track and measure relevant marketing metrics—using a set of internal and external data
Identify and launch internal metrics and data collection practices, using tools like Power BI
Manage 3rd party data subscriptions/ licenses to keep all data current and set up quantitative and qualitative processes to gather data in the field
Generate analysis to determine customer segments and geographic micromarkets:
Maintain and regularly refresh customer and market insights, including market size and share
Us this data to formulate and maintain Nutrien’s guiding customer segments, personas, and decision journeys
Use market insights to develop micromarket archetypes and profiles
Coordinate with other Marketing Leads to cascade insights throughout the organization
Marketing Research and Competitive Intelligence:
Compile and synthesize analysis of Nutrien’s market performance
Own development of “net promoter score” and other service metrics across the organization (collected directly or with 3rd party support)
Identify and subscribe to sources of insight into Nutrien’s market performance (e.g., Stratus); commission additional surveys to fill gaps
Inform marketing campaigns through customer and competitive insights:
Supervise annual assessments of major competitors, including areas of competitor investment (products and geographies, digital, etc.)
Understand competitive dynamics and strategies to inform the overall product
Monitor market for new best practices and competitive trends that will inform Nutrien’s strategic position
- 7+ years of marketing and/or insights experience, preferably within agriculture
- Track record leading large marketing communication organizations, ideally within leading agriculture, retail, or industrial contexts
- Solid academic background and/or deep expertise in marketing data and insight development, ideally within leading agriculture, retail, or industrial contexts
- Background in customer analytics and insights and comfort across multiple reporting platforms (e.g., Power BI, Excel, Power Point)
- Comfort/ experience communicating across multiple advertising mediums, including print, radio, television, and events
- Strong creative ability, including experience developing grower campaigns through customer insights
- Demonstrated ability to work with 3rd parties / agencies, manage internal and external relationships, negotiate contracts, and manage internal projects
- Effective in change management, ideally working with a highly decentralized organization to encourage and support field adoption
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills
- Ability to manage multiple teams of people
