    Accountable for Prairie Operations, Budgeting and P&L Performance.

     

    Key Tasks:

    Job Duties and Responsibilities:

    • Responsible for operations of Calgary, Vermilion, Saskatoon, Regina and Portage la Prairie DC’s as well as Calgary Barlow Trail Fertilizer Terminal
    • Maximize efficiencies and ensure all revenues are captured;
    • Look for and develop areas for growth and development for the Distribution Centres.
    • Assist finance department in preparing complete annual operating budgets for DC’s
    • Foster and maintain key customer relationships and account management
    • Review and approve all expenses
    • Ensure all vendor invoices have been forwarded to finance in the period they are incurred

    Reporting:

    • Bi-weekly approval of payroll for warehouse and logistics
    • Approve and scrutinize use of Temp labour and associated expenses
    • Fleet Mileage reporting

    Responsible for supervising DC warehousing and logistics staff.

    • Provide leadership, coaching and direct management of Regina DC.
    • Guide the management of the Vermilion, Calgary, Regina, Saskatoon and Portage la Prairie DC’s & Calgary Barlow Trail Fertilizer Terminal.
    • Oversee hiring, scheduling, vacation planning, performance reviews, disciplinary actions.
    • Ensure consistency and compliance with Collective Bargaining Agreement
    • Develop and train DC & Fertilizer Terminal staff on standard operating procedures
    • Maintain records of employees and ensure proper training for fork-truck, first-aid and TDG, WHMIS, PPE, etc are kept current
    • Ensure employees understand all policies and procedures related to their job functions.
    • Ensure receipts and order processing is completed properly and timely in WMS, AS400, BPCS, ARS and any related 3rd party systems. Including confirmations being sent to customers, if required.
    • Monitor Staff Scheduling, set up and assignments to ensure compliance and optimized utilization of all staff

    Inventory:

    •  Accurate Inventory must be maintained for all customers.
    • Inventory counts are done on schedule and are finalized as per customer agreements
    • Ensure cycle counts are completed monthly and variances are reconciled in that period

    Warehouse and Fleet Maintenance:

    • Ensure general & preventative maintenance of the building and equipment is completed.
    • Get at least two quotes for all jobs and have major expenses approved by National Business Manager before proceeding with the Job.
    • Ensure auditing, coding and approval of all invoices in completed to ensure proper pricing and job completion before forwarding to A/P for processing.

    Audits:

    • Ensure internal EHS month training and audit findings are completed on time.
    • Ensure preparation for and passing of “AWSA” audits to ensure continuity of operations. .

    Procedure Development:

    • Create and promote standard operating procedures for DC’s so they all operate the same.
    • Assist to identify weakness and areas where improvement is needed
    • Recommend and document process changes for improvements
    • Work with all Division GM’s MM’s and retial branch staff to ensure customer satisfaction.
    • Work with CPS CPP, LPIC, UAP teams to ensure efficient movement of product, storage and all other tasks as required.
    • Work with CPS Canadian Retail Manager to develop implementation strategies for all Access

    Process Improvement and Automation:

    • Seek ways to streamline processes to ensure efficient and accurate use of resources.
    • Seek ways to automate processes by the introduction and support of technology

    Responsible for Safety of Regina Operations:

    • Ensure compliance with all Environmental and Regulatory Services
    • Work with EHS department to provide necessary reports and information
    • Ensure all areas are operating up to Safety Standards
    • Review monthly minutes of safety meeting.
    • Review all safety procedures to ensure they are up-to-date and accurate
    • Oversee DC Managers to ensure compliance within their assigned areas

    Skills:

    • Very high degree of oral and written communication capabilities and good listening skills
    • Good persuasive and motivational skills
    • Advanced business skills of branch management
    • Excellent understanding of financial statements
    • Thorough understanding of fertilizer and agricultural chemical usage
    • Required knowledge/understanding of branch operation and equipment
    • Computer skills in Microsoft (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc.) and company agronomic programs
    • Understanding of the agricultural demands and practices of the division
    • Ability to handle stressful situations
    • Manage during ‘crisis situations’ while maintaining professional behavior
    • Extensive travel by vehicle required

    Qualifications:

    • Five (5) to seven (7) years of demonstrated successful experience of farm supply marketing. Three (3) years of this experience must have been in a management capacity. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
    • University Degree in Agriculture or Commerce.
