As part of the inbred development team, this position is responsible for implementation and oversight of all aspects of the canola doubled haploid production and marker assisted breeding project plans, ensuring work plans are outlined, capacities fully utilized, production is tracked, and deliverables are met.


Work with Canola Inbred Breeder and Molecular marker team, as well as coordinate with Plant Growth Facilities group to design, to successfully implement and oversee greenhouse/growth room projects supporting all aspects of marker assisted crossing, backcrossing, and selection of Dh donors with genes of interest.

Successful cross functional communication and planning with support functions, such as Molecular Biology and Plant Growth Facilities, coordination of equipment maintenance, and lab supply management.


Key Tasks:

  • Management of technical staff involved with the process, which includes but not limited to hiring, training, and administration of the performance management processes.
  • Champion safety initiatives within workgroup ensuring work is completed both safely and efficiently. Leader in all environmental, health, safety and security initiatives as established by Company.
  • Prepare schedule, plan, organize, and oversee all activities related to research projects and breeding programs. 
  • Monitor progress and results to ensure production targets and breeding objectives are met.
  • Coordinate multi-party activities related to specific new traits available for incorporation into the Company’s canola breeding programs.
  • Design and conduct program experiments as part of ongoing strategy to enhance breeding efficiency.
  • Develop and prepare the budget for area of responsibility. 
  • Control and authorize expenditures in accordance with Company policy.
  • Liaison with appropriate industry contacts to garner support, convey results, and maintain current in designated areas of expertise.
  • Maintain a strong working knowledge of plant breeding and new tools for breeding developed in associated areas such as biotechnology, plant transformation and molecular genetics.
  • Performs other related duties as required.



  • Experience with canola doubled haploid production as well as Dh lab management.
  • Working knowledge of molecular markers, marker assisted selection, and plant breeding principles.
  • Computer, software, and database experience and aptitude.
  • Strong interpersonal effectiveness demonstrated through experience successfully managing people and working within multi-disciplinary teams.
  • Should have familiarity with and demonstrate good analytical and logical thought processes, must be perceptive, and detail oriented.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills required including demonstrated presentation skills.
  • Process improvement experience or training.
  • Project management and Human Resource experience are a benefit.
  • Must be willing to travel, and have strong leadership ability.



  • Three to five (3 – 5) years of experience. Equivalent combinations of education and experience will be considered.
  •  M.Sc. in Crop Science with major specialization in tissue culture and oilseed breeding. B.Sc. with significant related experience considered.
